SAVI Sunday - Episode 40 How To Make a Pillow Box

SAVI Sunday - Episode 40:  How To Make a Pillow Box

Happy Sunday to you!  The sun is shining so bright today on this last Sunday of November.  It is just a beautiful day.

Today I wanted to share a video on how to make a Pillow Box.  These are great for putting a gift card in them, a little treat, or maybe some cash.  The finished, fillable area is about 3/4 x 2-1/2 x 3-3/4".  So you can fill with a number of things.  Let's take a look at my pillow box finished off with Sheer Real Red ribbon and a poinsettia from the Poinsettia Place Suite.

I absolutely love how this turned out.  And although you can't see the shine of the flower, I did use the Brushed Metallic Cardstock to die cut the poinsettia petals.  This picture though, does show you the different hues or colors of the Brushed Metallic card stock that comes in the pack.  You get 6 sheets (2 each of the three metallic colors).

Here is my YouTube Video explaining how to make the Pillow Box.

To create make sure to watch the video:

  • You will need a piece of card stock (or use Designer Series Paper) cut to 5 x 5-1/2.
  • On the 5-1/2" side score at 1/2" and then 3" (or as in my video using the Stampin' Up! Paper Trimmer which was 1/2" from the right then 2-1/2" from the left).  The video will show you!
  • Trace your arcs and cut out
  • Create your scores
  • Punch half circles to create thumb tabs
  • Adhere the tab
  • Fold up and decorate

Cute Adorable Gnomes for Christmas

Hi creative friends... I am excited to share some adorable cards with you.  Apparently I have a soft spot for gnomes!  Who knew?

The "Gnome For The Holidays" stamp set is just so stinkin' cute!  Here are some quick and easy cards for you to copy and share.  I usually do not get so excited over whimsical stamp sets.  I think it is that little girl gnome with the tree on her head.  Just makes me chuckle.

  • Card bases are in Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce.
  • Layer of Designer Series paper is 4 x 5-1/4"  (from Classic Christmas 6x6 DSP stack and Christmas Tiding but that one is sold out)
  • I stamped my Gnomes & words in Black Memento ink on a piece of Whisper White measuring 3 x 4
  • Color images with Stampin' Blends Alcohol marks
  • Add Whisper White to card with Dimensionals
    • Little Girl Gnome Blends colors: Shaded Spruce, Mango Melody, Seaside Spray, Cherry Cobbler, Bronze & Ivory
    • Bottom Left Gnome Blends colors:  Shaded Spruce, Cherry Cobbler, Ivory, Bronze, Seaside Spray, Pool Party.  Add some Wink of Stella Glitter marker to his hat and ornament
    • Middle Gnome Blends colors:  Mango Melody, Seaside Spray, Shaded Spruce, Ivory, Soft Suede
    • Bottom Right Gnome Blends colors:  Flirty Flamingo, Basic Gray, Ivory, Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce, Seaside Spray, Mango Melody

Tip 1:  Use your imagination when coloring your Gnomes.  Give them lots of color to make them look fun and happy.

Tip 2:  Use the side of the Blends marker brush tip to add some color over words or add some 'ground' underneath and around their feet.

I really hope you like these little guys, and girl!  Again, this is such an adorable set:

SAVI Sunday - Episode 39 - What's Your Inspiration?

Savi Sunday 39 - What's Your Inspiration?

So where do you look, for inspiration?  There are so many places to go to, such as me, your demonstrator!  But it has been a hard year for in-person classes, which is where a lot of my customers get their inspiration from.  So I thought I would put together a list of ideas.

Where to get inspiration:

But let's talk about the semi-obvious places:

Now how about the not-so-obvious places:

  • nature
  • wildlife
  • paintings
  • pictures
  • other greeting cards
  • a picture on tv
  • advertisement
  • wallpaper

I think the list could go on and on.  The important thing to remember... is just look.  Keep your eyes open.  Inspiration is all around us.

So for my SAVI 39...  here is my inspiration.  It is a photo card that actually popped up in one of my social media feeds and I thought, hmmmmm... I can make that and use it as a template for a card.

Toile Tidings Christmas Cardinal

PicsArt_11-10-09.27.42

I love when Stampin' Up! carries over product from one season to the next and this project have several items.  Stamps, dies, and paper from last year's holiday catalog are still available.  This cardinal, not only being Ohio's state bird, is such a classic symbol at Christmas time.

The Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper is a classic too.  I don't know why but the designs remind me of my childhood.  It must be something, maybe a decoration, from when I was little.  The paper is unique too... one side is all Real Red and the reverse is all Garden Green.  With a Very Vanilla base, it adds the perfect antique or aged feel.  Take a look!

Toile Tidings DSP

Here are my card details:

  • Real Red card base cut 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored at 4-1/4 on the long side

  • Piece of Toile Tidings DSP (red pattern) cut 3-1/4 x 4-1/2
